Selecting a Credit Repair Company

How should you select a credit repair company?  This is a question that many people are asking these days.  This should come as no surprise.  As the troubled economy continues and unemployment grows, more and more people are facing financial difficulties.  If your credit has suffered, you might be wonder how to pick the best credit repair specialist to work on improving your credit.  Let’s take a look at some simple guidelines.

First, you want to work with a company that has been around for a while and has a good reputation.  There are many companies that are little more than a scam.  Your safest bet is to go with a large company that has been around for a while.  I have had many clients have some good success with Lexington Law.

Once you narrow down who you would like to work with, ask around.  It is always best if you can hear about a positive experience from someone you trust.  Don’t be too embarrassed about your situation to ask for advice from others.

You should also check with the better business bureau.  It is not necessary that the company be without complaints.  Remember, some of these companies have helped hundreds of thousands of clients.  There is bound to be someone who was unhappy!  But there is a big difference from a large national company having 5 complaints versus a new smaller company with 5 complaints.  Obviously, the first company had many more satisfied clients.

Lastly, you will want to pay attention to the advertising and the claims that the company makes.  A good way to spot a company that is not reputable is if the guarantee specific results.  If they promise that they can improve your credit score by 75 points in 90 days, you should run!  The reality is that they have no way of standing by that claim because they can’t control what the credit bureaus do.
