Should You Repair Your Own Credit?

People decide to repair their credit for many different reasons.  Perhaps they are in a lease to own home and have a finite time in which to qualify for a mortgage or they lose their option fee and their home.  Or maybe their car is on it’s last leg and they know they are going to need to get a new one soon.  Whatever the reason, people who have credit issues and decide to correct them must make the decision to either repair their own credit or work with a credit repair company.

Credit repair companies can be very helpful in some situations, but they are not necessarily a good solution for everyone.  For starters, they can be very expensive.  Some charge upfront fees that are as large as $500.  Others charge on a monthly basis.  While this can seem like a better deal, the down side is that charging monthly means that they are not very motivated to repair your credit.  The longer your credit is bad, the more money they make.

On the other hand, choosing to work with a credit repair company is better than doing nothing.  For those who do not have the time or patience to work on their own credit, it is certainly the best alternative.   But for people who are able to make the time and are willing to learn what they need to know, do it yourself credit repair can be a great option.  You will not only save money, but if you properly educate yourself, you most likely have faster and better results.  Why?  Well obviously, you are very motivated to get things done quickly.  Also, improving your credit involved much more than just disputing negative information.  You need to establish good new credit as well.  Since only you can do this, you have the ability to impact your credit file much more than the average credit repair company.
